ART THE CLOWN
ART THE CLOWN
Terrifier franchise (2016 - Ongoing)
The Terrifier franchise has taken the horror world be storm and, knowing the extremely brutal nature of the films, beaten it to within an inch of its life; an unrecognisable mess of blood and giblets lying on the floor. After the first installation in back in 2016, following a rocky start, the independent movie gathered a major fan-favourite backing. This lead quickly to a much higher budget, but no less disturbing, sequel in 2022 and equally jarring third film in 2024, both continuing to pull in millions of dollars.
Essentially, the entire Terrifier series, revolves around a killer named Art the Clown. When we first saw Art, he was a flesh and blood killer, mortal, someone who could be killed – and he actually is killed during the events of the first movie. However, the hapless clown is resurrected by some evil demonic force, pulled from the depths of Hell, coming back as an immortal horror to plague the streets of Miles County, New York. He is silent, never speaking even once, never seems to tire or require food and is extremely violent in his kills; often spending unnecessary amounts of time to make his victims suffer in gory agony before finally dispatching them, seemingly enjoying their prolonged pain. The ‘tools’ for these torturous kills are carted around in a black bin bag. Art is only ever seen in an iconic black & white clown costume though if he is, or ever was, connected to the circus remains a mystery.
